Game Genie Game Enhancer:
The Mew codes for Game Genie are different for two versions of Pokemon (Red & Blue), and untested for other versions. Once you enter the code, fly to Cerulean City and walk far west until you reach a grassy field. Once you are in the field, you'll find Mew after the first 10 to 20 battles. If you don't have a Master Ball to catch him, try putting him to sleep or using the Master Ball code (Hold Up + B immediately after the Pokéball explodes and release the buttons after the second wobble). If you don't catch him fast enough, he might TRANSFORM into one of your Pokemon and register as a DITTO once caught. Don't forget, if you only have one Master Ball, try using the 99 Item Code (ineffective in the yellow version)  so you have some extras to use on other Pokémon.

Mew Codes for RED version:

151-91A-F7C**
151-93A-7FE**
151-9BA-5DB*

*For the BLUE version, just change the last line of code from "151-9BA-5DB" to "151-9BA-6EB".

**Malfunction Notice: Some users have experienced problems with this code.
If you have a problem, try changing the first two lines of code to the following:

Second code set:

151-91A-7FC
151-93A-F7E

Keep the last line of code the way it is, according to your game version.

ABOUT POKEMON YELLOW:

I have received no information on whether or not these Game Genie codes work with Pokémon Yellow. I am almost certain Mew exists in the game programming (because you can still access him through one of Nintendo special Mew machines), although I don't know how to access him using a Game Genie. I would imagine that a variation of the last line of this code should work, although I emphasize that experimenting with Game Genie codes is quite dangerous if you are not an experienced code finder. Remember, I take NO responsibility for any ill effects this code may bring to your game.

I wish you luck if you plan to try this code on Pokémon Yellow, and I would appreciate  if anyone could supply Pokémon Source with a reliable code.

Mew Code for Game Shark:

Pokémon Source is about getting the Pokémon information that you want,
when you want it. People have asked me for this code before, and
because of your opinions, this web site is a little better. Thank you.

Game Shark Code:

OLD CODE
 NEW CODE
 0115D8CF
0115D7CF**

Instructions:
To use this code (to my knowledge), just go into an arbitrary grassy area and keep entering battles until Mew appears.

REPORT (06/01/2000): According to a web page I found, the code with the "7" in the 6th letter position  is for Pokémon Yellow, and the code with the "8" in the 6th letter position is for the Red and Blue versions. Remember, I cannot guarantee which code really works; it's up to you to decide which one to use.

Note: I have never used this code myself, but from what I have heard, it works fine.

What is a Mew Code?

For those of you who do not know who or what Mew is, allow me to briefly explain. In Pokémon Red & Blue, there is a Pokémon named Mewtwo, which is the 150th Pokémon. According to information found in the game, Mewtwo is an enhanced clone of Mew, another Pokémon who was never seen in the game. Later, Nintendo stated that Mew did exist in both versions, but to obtain him you would have to win one of their contests.

The interesting thing about Game Boy games (the actual cartridges) is that they are a combination of something called ROM (Read-Only-Memory) and a small amount of RAM (Random-Access-Memory). The ROM stores the actual game (what you play) and the RAM stores your current progress in the game. As the name explains, ROM cannot be changed when it is "burned" (when data is written to it), and the RAM is too small and not designed to store upgrades for the software stored in ROM. Therefore, there is no physical way for Nintendo to "change" someone's actual game to "make" it contain Mew. What they really do is unlock Mew from a section of the ROM that was hidden and unused in actual gameplay, and copy him to the RAM where your list of Pokémon is stored. That way, Mew becomes a member of your party.

Game Enhancers do exactly that process. They can "unlock" this extra information in your game. Mews retrieved in Pokémon using a game enhancer are just as "official" as any other Mew because they all come from the same place. This is what is referred to as a "Mew Code". It is a code that is entered into such a game enhancer that causes the enhancer to unlock Mew from the persons game. Unfortunately, at this time, these codes have only been tested for Red and Blue versions of Pokémon, but even if it is not possible to use the codes in other versions, it is very easy to get Mew from a Red or Blue version, and transfer it to another version.

At this point, you may be wondering why there is a certain risk involved with using a game enhancer. The only way game enhancers know which parts of the game to access is to read a code that you enter. If you enter the code incorrectly, the game enhancer will either read the wrong part of the game, or even write potentially harmful data to the RAM. This can cause corruption of game data, which may cause either game data loss, or even stop your game from functioning correctly. Whether these effects are permanent or not is unknown, as there is no known way to completely wipe RAM on cartridges.

If you really want Mew to be in your game, I would encourage you to try one of these codes because they seem to be safe. However, I warn you that if your game data is important to you, make sure you enter the codes correctly and do not try to guess and come up with codes!!! It is a very dangerous process for your game to undergo.

Have fun (using the more safe codes listed)!

I take NO responsibility for any damage the Mew codes may bring to your game.
I do assure you, however, that many people have said that these codes do work.
